Orphan Transition Program
Thinking Outside the Box supports teenagers in Guatemala as they age out of orphanages and prepares them to have prosperous and independent lives.
Our program, Thinking Outside the Box, aims to transform the futures of young Guatemalans who live in orphanages and children’s homes. At our Training Center in Guatemala City, we are teaching life and professional skills to dozens of teenagers, connecting them with foster families and mentors, and providing them with spiritual support.

This program prepares young people for a lifetime of success after they turn 18 years old and leave the children’s homes. An estimated 75% of teenagers in children’s homes lack a support network and the skills to do meaningful work. Many have suffered physical and emotional abuse and are at risk of falling into the traps of academic failure, homelessness, unemployment, substance abuse, and crime.
We’ll tackle this head-on by focusing on growth in three areas: emotional, professional, and personal. The teenagers participate in one-on-one and group therapy sessions. They learn practical skills including how to prioritize their health, find housing, manage their finances, and apply for jobs. They are also connected with foster families and mentors who can provide a lifetime of guidance.
Thousands of young people live in children’s homes and need our assistance in their journey to become independent adults who can make a positive impact in Guatemala. Join us in transforming their futures.
Our goal is to raise $60,000 by the end of 2022. We already have over 22 teenagers from six orphanages enrolled in our program. These funds will help us pay for the Guatemala City Training Center’s rent, the salaries of three staff members, supplies, and special activities. Thank you!
