How the Coronavirus is impacting the children of the Guatemala City Dump

Dear Founding Families and friends,

As you all know, the world is in crisis due to the Coronavirus pandemic declared by the World Health Organization last week.

This situation is impacting every aspect of the way we live our lives, but to those living in extreme poverty it has hit the hardest. Particularly in the Guatemala City Dump where hundreds of children and families rely on the food we serve at our Feeding Centers.  Some of these families won’t have income or food assistance in the next couple of weeks because of the quarantine ordered by the Guatemalan government on March 16th.

Some of the organizations that do an incredible job to support people around at the city dump have decided to close their operations and many of the children won’t have their support during this critical time.

Transforming Futures is still on the front lines of the garbage dump. Our goal is to support Pastora Mercedes as she looks for ways to keep our doors open and provide the children with food. Yet now the quarantine, ordered by the government on March 16, prohibits us from providing the children with food to go.

However, we feel we can still help those in need in the City Dump by providing food baskets to the 175 families that we serve so they can cook meals at home. This will allow them to stay at home and ensure the children we support can eat and be care for.

We ask you to pray for us as we navigate the best and safest way to provide food baskets to hundreds of families that wouldn’t otherwise have food for their children. You can donate here to help us achieve the goal of buying 350 food baskets for families in need.

Donate today and help us be a blessing in the middle of this coronavirus outbreak.
