We are so thrilled to announce the reopening of our 2 feeding centers to provide daily food to hundreds of children living in the surrounding areas of the Garbage City Dump. Due to the government restrictions caused by the spread of COVID we had to close our feeding center for 6 months.
During this time we provided food baskets to the families that we normally support in our feeding program. For 6 month we were able to bless 500 families on bi monthly basis.
The garbage dump in Guatemala has also been closed and no access is provided to people to collect recycling materials to generate their daily income. This crisis has affected many aspects for families living in the Guatemala City garbage dump and all the basic living needs are in danger of not being met. Furthermore, the children are the most affected because their parents still go out to look for their daily support and they are left alone, without supervision and support to continue their remote schooling. In addition, the food crisis has increased because many of the aid assistance provided by many organizations has been irregular.
As we kept seeing the crisis continue we prayed that God would allow us to re-open our doors to our children. Pre COVID we served an average of 400 children every day and due to the current food crisis we have added 200 more children to our feeding program. More than 600 children are now provided with daily food.
Children are now provided with daily food
400
We think the increase in the number of children from 400 to 600 is due to the closure of the schools in Guatemala where hundreds of children receive daily food. It is in time like this when we thank God and we thank you for your generosity that allows us to provide food.
As the number of children we support has increased to 600 children daily, we need your support to ensure we can continue to provide for the children living in extreme poverty in the Guatemala City garbage dump.
