Update on Our Feeding Center

Dear Founding Families and friends,

We hope this update finds you healthy and well as you deal with our current Coronavirus pandemic.

This situation is impacting every aspect of the way we live our lives, and to those living in extreme poverty the effect has been pronounced. Particularly in the Guatemala City dump where hundreds of children and families rely on the food we serve at our Feeding Centers. Some of these families will not have income or food assistance in the next couple of weeks because of the quarantine ordered by the Guatemalan government.

Transforming Futures is still on the front lines of the garbage City dump. Our goal is to support Pastora Mercedes as she looks for ways to keep our doors open and provide the children with food. Yet now the quarantine prohibits us from providing the children with food to go.

However, we feel we can still help those in need in the City dump by providing food baskets to families that we serve so they can cook meals at home. This will allow them to stay at home and ensure the children we support can eat and be cared for.

We would like to report on what your generosity has helped us accomplish so far:

Total Food Baskets: 597

Educational support:

The current health crisis has also affected the educational development of some children in Guatemala. The government has initiated distance learning classes by sending physical schoolwork to families. However, about 50% of the children that we support in our educational program have not received these materials. In order to continue supporting their educational development, we created alternative distance learning classes to prevent delays in their learning.

Thank you for your partnership during this crisis! We pray God will continue to guide us to support these families in the best way!
