With your generous support, Transforming Futures has continued to provide a lifeline to thousands of families and children in Guatemala during the first quarter of 2021. As the world marks one year since the COVID-19 pandemic began, we feel blessed to have been able to resume serving meals every day at our Feeding Centers and teaching children in our Learning Centers. We are also inching closer to starting a new program for orphans. None of this would be possible without your support—thank you.

In January, February, and March, we served a total of 32,901 plates at our two Feeding Centers. Every day, 530 children on average enjoyed a free, hot meal. That’s 200 children more than the number of those we served before the COVID-19 lockdown.
We’re also thrilled to report that in February we started a partnership with the city’s second-biggest grocery chain, which has donated leftover food that we use in our Feeding Centers. Since the partnership began, the grocery chain has donated more than 100 boxes of food.

Expected to Launch Soon
We’ve hired a full-time employee who will start in the summer to lead the development of our new program for orphans. The program, Thinking Outside the Box, will help orphans who had been living under government custody to find housing, jobs, and other opportunities after they turn 18 years old. Our goal is to provide a supportive community to individuals who have nowhere else to turn.

Construction continues on the Michelle Pho Elementary School in a rural Guatemalan community, with the roof nearly ready to be installed. It is currently about 60 percent and expected to be operational in late 2021.
Transforming Futures continues to organize three-day Quick Trips for guests to volunteer in our Feeding Centers, tour the Guatemala City dump, interact with children and families receiving our support, and learn more about our mission. U.S. and Canadian visitors are allowed to enter Guatemala after showing a negative COVID-19 tests or proof of vaccination.
