Last year, we worked tirelessly to change the lives of young Guatemalans. We reached more than 800 children and teenagers across our programs.
But one moment stood out as our highlight of 2022: We successfully launched a new program for teenage orphans, called Thinking Outside the Box. In April, 21 teens joined the program.
Through the program, we’re giving each teen a chance to break free from their traumatic past—including poverty and abuse—and start on a path to an independent and prosperous life. We’re teaching job skills, providing mentorship opportunities, and offering counseling services. This video explains the program’s mission and shares some of the teens’ stories.
Our hard work is already paying off. In December, all of the teens graduated from the first year of the program, which focused on emotional development. We’re thrilled to report that all 21 of them are coming back for the second year, and at least 17 more teens will join the program.
